I have come to believe it does not work to tell mothers they do not "need" to
be separated from their babies. They do not "need" to have epidurals, give
bottles or any of the vast array of other interventions either. IMO, they
need to be told that these things are harmful, not that they are an option
they do not "need" to have. As I see it, it is not enough to tell a mother
that being with her baby has advantages for bf success. She needs to be told
that being away from her baby is very harmful.
