Had a client with same situation. She happened to bring her mom to consult.
Found out that MOB had extensive oral work done, and when she had her
braces put on, they clipped her labial frenulum. When I showed the grandma
a picture in breastfeeding atlas about what we were talking about, (baby was
on breast) she said Oh, I have that and proceeded to lift up her top lip. Yep,
there it was, she said she used to have a large gap she used to spit water
through :). I guess you could say that these things are familial. The baby
has a short tongue, which I am thinking is really a submucousal frenulum.
Haven't got that far in Cathy's book yet.! My point is, probably at some point
in her life this will need to addressed, if it is so pronounced that you can see a
gap where the two front teeth will come it. I have seen some pretty severe
cases, and some mild. You will decide where you fall on the spectrum.
wishing you and your baby the best. (whatever you decide is best)
