On behalf of the LC I work with:

1) Newborn, who is exclusively breastfed, has been through extensive testing
with all results normal, showing blood in urine - has anyone seen this with a
connection to breastfeeding?

2) Two mothers recently - reported that fresh breastmilk had a soapy odor
and bitter taste,as if it was bad; both infants were exclusively breastfeed
and refused to nurse due to breastmilk. One mom turned out to be pregnant
and, with the other, no reason was found. (the obvious such as bar soaps or
soapy containers ruled out) Is anyone aware of a similar condition?

On behalf of a client I saw today: male, 3 weeks old, discharge 6# 11 oz.,
nursing going well, feeds every 1 - 2 hours during the day, 3 - 4 at night,
jaundice in hospital - bili lights required. Mom called concerned that baby
was fussy and passing a bright green stool. Mom brought baby to me as Peds
here don't see babies until 1 month (BF or the other stuff). Current baby's
weight 7# 12.8 oz. and still passing a seedy bright fluorescent green stool.
Mom requested Ped order a bili level which came back 8. Mom's diet is
nothing out of the ordinary with the only meds - a prenatal vitamin. The
color of the stool concerns me as none of my resource texts discuss anything
but the typical stools. I have considered and discussed with the mom
foremilk-hindmilk imbalance but based on mom's nursing logs, this doesn't
seem to be the case. Any thoughts on this?
