Kathleen,
         Yes I HAVE run into this.  There are places that would rather
sell the PNS than fool with a rental.  (I sell the things, too, but just
every now and then).  I *insist* on SMB or classic for babies who cannot
stimulate the breast, or those who wish to
increase milk supplies.  I have a vacuumeter, and there *is* a difference
b/t
Elite and Lactina and "the big guys".
          However, one cannot rule out that the stress of being the
baby's caregiver and responsible for his care now that he's home may also

have impacted her supply.  I've seen moms who just couldn't *wait* to get
their baby home fall apart once they did--part relief that the ordeal
is over and part feelings of inadequacy that she will not give her baby
the care the hospital staff did.  Sad.  Did she have a chance to check
into the hospital for rooming in before they came home?  In my
experience,
that really smooths the transition.
