Dear Lactfolks,

My fuzzy brain recalls something mentioned on Lactnet a while back about a
(French?) study concluding that breastfeeding in the first three months or so
will not transmit HIV. (Breastfeeding longer did have a risk, and the risk
increased the longer breastfeeding continued.) Has this been refuted or
supported by other studies?

And whatever happened to the option of heating the mother's milk to kill off
the virus? Does anyone know if the mom in the recent court case was allowed
this option?

This all depends, too, on whether the test results for the mom's HIV
condition are reliable.

This inquiring mind, as usual, would like to know.
