Hello
Two questions for you:
Our baby-Friendly Hospital needs patient education videos that do not
mention formula or show bottles, and have good up to date advice. The DVD we
purchased from Injoy in Spanish walked, and we're down to only one English
version and it's not getting used. Pt ed is suffering. To buy more from
Injoy is cost-prohibitive, unfortunately. Any recommendations? Off list is
fine.
Secondly, our new Peds are all over formula for treating hyperbili. I need
good data/research to refute this and show breastfeeding lowers bilirubin
and facilitates bilirubin excretion. I meet with the Ped next week.
A related issue: reading Gartner, 2004, it sounds like breastfed babies have
higher bilirubin levels, that breastmilk causes bilirubin resorption from
the gut, rather than excretion. When I hear that breastmilk causes
something, I always look for the positive reason behind it - there must be
some design in nature, breastfeeding being normal feeding, that there are
elevated bili levels. Is there? Please site some references I can take back
to peds to refute the use of formula.

Thank you all,

Marie Farver
