I just received an order for a baby carrier from thebabybungalow.com, and
with it came this little "gift packet" from American Baby. It has a Nuk
pacifier, some coupons, a fancy advert for Nestle formula and a horrid
American Baby spin off called "Childbirth" - in it is an article about how
to decide whether to breastfeed or use formula (already the set up is bad,
no?) note to Kathy D - only the bottlefeeding mom in this article is smiling
- the nursing moms look glum.

Now that our spirits are soured by the Moroney article, I thought I'd share
a few tidbits from this magazine with folks I know will be just as outraged
as I:

title of nursing segment: "Nursing: well worth a try" [!]

title of bottle segment: "Bottlefeeding: Formula For Success

Babies can thrive on formula too, and this choice may appeal to you for
several reasons. If you need to go to work soon after delivery and have a
substitute caretaker to feed your baby, it's probably more convenient to
begin bottlefeeding than it is to learn to nurse and then stop....
Some couples simply feel more comfortable giving their baby formula. To them
bottlefeeding promises greater convenience and less discomfort. as Jackie,
one new mother, explains, "I could think of several reasons why I'd rather
bottlefeed. If I'd had problems nursing, I might have ended up resenting the
baby" "

the article was written by Adrienne Lieberman. I believe this "magazine"
gets wide circulation.

(glad she "gave nursing a try")
