Well this may be talked to death but Carol's post brought up my concern
about the e-bay consult. There are times when you really need to see what
exactly is going on. Being LLLL most of what we do is over the phone, but a
few years ago another Leader had an experience that highlighted why seeing a
mom can really help. She received a call from a mom with sore nipples, who
"knew" is wasn't a positioning problem. This was baby number 5 and she
never had sore nipples before. She went over thrush and tongue concerns.
Still nothing seemed to fit, so she (Leader) decided to try a home visit
"since sometimes seeing can help pinpoint the problem". Mom was laying baby
in her lap, on his back, turning the baby's head to the side and leaning
over to nurse - well the other 4 did fine like this. Once she had mom
position baby the "right" way soreness was gone. But without seeing mom -
she could have been trying everything in the book with no success.
