The tubing doesn't make a difference; this is a matter of the design of the
pump motor itself.

Jane,

Not sure why there's such a contentious tone to your responses.  The
difference between the air and a moldy pump motor is the concentration of
the spores in a pump that's growing mold and/or yeast (which wouldn't be
present around mom's nipple).  Yes, these things are in the air all the
time, but not at high concentrations like on the inside of a visibly
moldy/or yeasty pump.

And while the faceplate snaps off easily in newer models (yes, I've looked
at them, and opened my own, thanks), the designs vary with model year.
