Where are the fissures?  If they look like a knife slice at the base of the
nipple, I would assume that it is yeast.  In my experience that is a
tell-tale sign of yeast/thrush.

I would recommend* at least* 2 weeks of Diflucan and Dr. Newman's All
Purpose Nipple Ointment along with treating the baby for thrush, preferably
with Diflucan. If not, with Gentian Violet per Dr. Newman's protocol.
