I will be very interested in seeing what you find changes in this baby's
oral assessment, Jaye!

My only experience with change in a palate was in a VERY preemie baby - I
was observing mom breastfeed, and the movement of the breast in and out of
the baby's mouth made me wonder what was going on. as the baby was also
getting bottles, I didn't think my inserting a gloved finger would add to
her problems - and lo and behold a VERY high palate.

A month later, mom and baby were breastfeeding well - and when I checked the
palate - it was down to "normal" and milk transfer was excellent - nothing
special had been done for that baby other than LOTS of opportunities to
breastfeed (mom did go home at night, so baby, who was in NICU , also got
some bottle feedings).

Now I have also had "pointy" palates - and some moms "toughened" the nipples
and were able to tolerate the irritation - but one mom would only nurse with
a shield - it seemed to prevent the irritation - and milk transfer was
excellent even though, eventually, she was able to exclusively breastfeed
without pumping.
