Barb,
In addition to the day/night confusion issue you may
want to include "normal cluster feeding behavior" in
your document.  Some resources use the term "bunched
feeds".  I am finding more and more that this normal
neonatal feed pattern is either unknown to staff and
parents, or, when it occurs it is assumed to be
*abnormal* and everyone jumps to the conclusion that
something is wrong.  Of course, the mistaken
assumption is that BFing is, in some way, not working
well and the solution is to give AIM...<sigh>

Can't recall which one, but either AAP or Academy of
BFing Medicine policy/protocol states that BFing
should be assessed PRIOR to the introduction of AIM to
a breastfeeding couple.  (We here on Lactnet know this
is a chapter from the "DUH Chronicles"...)  How these
well researched professional statements can be
routinely ignored by health care organizations and
providers from every discipline is beyond my
comprehension.
