Honestly, I think more information collecting would be in order. An inflamed gut could be caused by diet, or microbial infection. I would also really want to check that mother does not have any nipple trauma. Blood that goes in, comes out in the stool. Was it bright red blood? Was it old blood? Was it full of mucus too? Family history of food allergy or intolerance? A single diaper with two streaks of blood is a little ambiguous. I'm a little confused by the recommendation to eliminate eggs, as most start with milk and then soy and then wheat, but her local population may have more egg allergy.

The other thing you have to consider is that mother's gut needs healing as well! Yes, it is hard to switch off cow's milk, but the easiest thing to do is clear out the house. Fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, and lean proteins, and legumes, are not only good solutions, but good for mom and everyone else! Have her dig up an old cookbook from 1930 and start cooking. It is amazing! People actually cooked food, without opening a can, or using a prepackaged short cut. Once you get the hang of it, it isn't a lot longer or harder. Help her look at this is a good opportunity to make a change that will greatly benefit her family for the rest of their lives. Good sources of calcium will need to be discussed, but isn't that the beauty of good vegetables? Don't present it as an elimination diet she has to do until baby can take the proteins and have eczema or asthma instead of bloody stools. Present it as a healthy change of diet and lifestyle to provide fresh health food to herself and her family! Coconut milk is a wonderful substitute in cooking. Much of the world lives well without cow's milk. We can too!
