Teresa wrote about parents hesitating to embrace the concept of love and intimacy with their baby:

When you come right down to it, such a transformative experience *is*
scary. I remember trying *not* to think that I would be responsible for
another human being for at least 18 years... quite a daunting task,
considering at 48 I barely feel old enough to take care of myself!

I wonder what factors come into play to make some women, like me, grow
into happiness through this transformative experience, and make others
continue to resist it? I mean, I know about the factors of support
system, family structure, social and economic factors. And the
psychological factors of self-confidence and so on. But I've known women
who were not at all similar in terms of those factors who loved the
intensity of it, and others who seemed similar (what I'd consider my
peer group) who held back and didn't choose to breastfeed (or toss their
life plan out the window, anyway).

Now that would make a good research study...
