Regarding the woman who experiences itching when nursing: perhaps she
has a progesterone allergy and is having fluctuating progesterone levels
during nursing (she is in the first few weeks post-partum,right?). Did
she have significant first trimester nausea? Did she have PMS before
pregnancy? If so, she may have progesterone allergy - I don't have
references with me (just moved) but there's a paper from ob/gyns from
victoria, texas from several years ago in an ob journal about
progesterone allergy, treated with desensitization, for PMS and first
trimester nausea. Dr. Richard Garrison, Houston, telephone 713-285-1800
(I don't have his e-mail address) is well versed in this area.
This is my first posting - I just started reading LACTNET last week -
it's wonderful. I moved to Austin from houston recently and since I have
a 15 month old, am thinking of limiting my practice to lactation rather
than a full service family practice as previously.
