Hi Val,
Haven't had any experience of paw paw being tissue destructive,
although I haven't seen that report and NMAA do not recommend any
creams or ointments as such. Maybe it is the brand, as the mothers who
used it that I knew, found it soothing BUT we were also working on
positioning at the time!!
My ALWAYS recommendation if a mother chooses to put anything but
breastmilk on her nipples (I have never felt it necessary to recommend
creams, but some people fall in love with the advertising ) is to use
a TINY smear and to stop if it doesn't help. I would definitely tell
mothers to stop using it if there was any suspicion that it was
irritating the nipples especially if there was bleeding. Work on the
basics "Position, position, position" and checking for thrush/eczema.
I always wonder about the grated carrot though.........
cheers,
Querida

Thanks for your help Querida. Just one thing though, have you
heard of Paw Paw cream being tissue disctructive? This was on a
hand out that I was given 3 years ago now, I remember Ros
Escotts name being on the bottom of it. Amazingly the people I
have seen who have being using it,all have bleeding nipples. Do
you know anything about that.
