Not true. Medela has always offered bottle-based collection kits. The
only difference in this kit is that the nipples have been changed to
conform to the CONSULTANT and RESEARCH based observations and
recommendations i.e. that when babies are properly latched to the
breast, they take in 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inch of nipple and areola to form a
teat that is rounded in shape (not NUK shaped) (see Catherine Watson
Genna's book page 187 for a good description). I am frankly sick of this
whole discussion. By the way, I am NOT a private consultant and make no
money directly from any product. I see babies from 1 day to 2 years old
and have been doing this for over 20 years. Hollister/Ameda/Evenflo,
Gerber/Mead Johnson/Nestle, Medela, Wyeth. These are all corporate
entities. They are not people. They do not have consciences.
Consciences are held by people who believe that there is a right and
wrong and that there is a consequence for making wrong choices. Which
one of these corporations is owned by an individual, which by investors?
Investors have one motivation - make money on your investment. Who is
paying the bills? If it's WIC in the USA, that's you and me and our tax
dollars. I don't know about taxes in other countries. I personally
want my tax dollars if I have to give them, going to support
breastfeeding - that saves me money in every way. In the end, it all
comes down to money. Don't think it was a charitable cause that induced
the sale of Ameda to Evenflo -it was a business deal on both parts.
Don't think that Evenflo's declaration to "honor the code" is anything
but a ploy to get goodwill. If their sales go down, they will NOT
continue, they are an investor owned company! By the way, check out the
Guest Editorial in Neonatal Intensive Care Journal (which is a marketing
rag mostly). Lovely words. What add precedes it? Good start
bionutritionals!@@@
Just my morning Lactnet rant. I don't know how much longer I can stay
subscribed to this.

Hi Naomi,
As far as I am aware it is new for Medela to be marketing feeding
bottles as a stand alone product (as opposed to collecting bottles
coming incidental to
pumps) and teats at all.
