Expect to sleep less at night, take naps during the day. The greatest help a mom can get, is someone who can help her around the house and help take care of her so she can care for the baby. When I see a couple, specially after a c/ s, I asked the mom who is helping her while she recuperates in an effort that her spouse understands that he may be the one who needs to help, or if he doesn't he may find someone who can do it
As far as visitors is concerned, I reminded to let them know that mom doesn't feel rested and they will let (friends and some family members) know when is a good time. I stressed the importance to call me if bf is not going well: pain, latching issues, milk supply.
Lately I asked the mom to save my number in their cell too.
