I know to some of you on LACTNET this is OFF-TOPIC...BUT...if you can
eventually view the whole picture of how BF impacts it.....you will realize
that MOST of the time BF prevents and/or minimizes chronic ear
disease....along with many other diseases you are already aware of.

WARNING: This is not meant to be a rant against medicine or MDs....but please
understand that ONLY last week did 1 ENT agree to sit down with me and talk
about what I know and can show....in my 12 years of trying.  This fall I will
be preaching to dentists in Dallas and Mexico at orthodontic conferences and
I will interject a small portion in my 2 abstracts accepted by APHA- American
Public Health Association on Breasfeeding this fall, Nov 2000 in Boston...the
WORD will get out.

My 1st passion is/was the MEDICAL EFFECTS of FUNCTIONAL JAW ORTHOPEDICS (see
SmilePage.com) Pull my Pubmed Citations: 1999 #10613124 & 1988 #3251806 (1988
has no abstract because NIH doesn't deem dental or nursing publications
worthy of it before a certain year). Over 12 years ago I started searching,
investigating, and researching the medical database...but much more so over 2
years ago after a publication said that" Physicians were so confused as to
why ear infections occurred without bacteria...that they were now looking for
phantom/stealth bacteria.  In doing so and following many avenues of
explorationI have found many areas of medicine that concern me....and make me
wonder WHAT HAVE WE DONE BY SO FRAGMENTING medical care....WHERE ARE THE
GENERAL MDs.

BACKGROUND STORY: I have 3 sons. In 31 combined years, 2 of my sons have
NEVER to my knowledge had an EAR "INFECTION".
In 2.5 years my middle son had 20+ "ear events" between the age of 6 mos. and
3.2 years.....called "INFECTIONS" by the pediatrician....BUT..he has not had
one in 13 years....SINCE I bonded his teeth...changing his ORTHOPEDIC JAW
POSITION.

BACKGROUND HISTORY: Whether looking at the new use for MAGGOTS or LEECHES,
sometimes history holds clues to BETTER treatments...not just alternatives.
Take Leonardo Da Vinci....he found 1500 year old writings, ignored for 1500
years, revised them...and many of his inventions, theories, protocols are
used even today.

MD & DDS HISTORY: Most MDs get 0 to 60 minutes of dental intruction in med
school...so they usually don't spend much time looking in the mouth.
DDSs get much medical basic training...BUT...they spend little or no time
looking in ears....like I have for over 10 years. So there is a very large
void in knowledge between the mouth and ears....the JAW BONES....JAW
ORTHOPEDICS.

EAR FACTS....MOST OF WHICH I HAVE MULTIPLE CITATION BACKING :
FACT: Acute and chronic ear disease causation remains very much a "mystery"
of unknown origin to medicine.
FACT: ENTs admit in their teaching books they DO NOT KNOW HOW, using current
methods, to stop or cure it.
FACT: OM=Otitis Media is the #1 reason for all pediatric and pediatric ENT
visits.
FACT: About 1/3 of ALL prescription drugs are given out for ear "infections".
FACTS: ONLY about 30% of acute & crhonic ear fluids test positive for
bacteria when cultured, usually studied from tube placement.
FACT: about 2/98 a $1 million dollare grant went to research to find
"phantom" bacteria.
FACT: about 5/98 the scientific community called for a reduction in the OVER
prescribing of drugs...especially antibiotics
FACT: about 10/98 MDs blamed parent "requests" (Mothers) as a principal
reason for giving out so many antibiotics.
FACT: MDs are responsible for prescribing drugs....mother's are not....even
if they ask for them.
FACT: Ear fluids are primarily a result of inflammation....not viral or
bacterial causation....not even mRNA footprint searches can find enough
bacterial trails.
FACT: Ear "infections" are anatomy related and a secondary result of
inflammation, just like in certain breeds of dogs...BOW WOW!
FACT: Chronic ear fluids often become more sterile when left alone without
DRUGS....Hmmm!!!
FACT: PACIFIER use increases OM...from the backward jaw effect... NOT
bacterial transmission & OM decreases just when  pacifier is taken away.
FACT: About 100,000 ear GROMMETS "tubes" are placed annually...to manage ear
disease...in the U.S. alone
FACT: Dental treatment Stops....i.e. CURES ear disease from OM to Mennieres
quickly and highly efficaciously.
FACT: WHY: BECUASE MOST EAR DISEASE, acute and chronic is caused by
ORTHOPEDIC JAW DYSFUNCTION & MALPOSITION.
FACT: Eustachian tube theory is NOT a primary cause of ear disease...as
proven by "sniff" studies.
FACT: EAR tubes are better off without ear plugs when swimming, per a number
of published studies.
FACT: To those in medicine willing to discuss  this rather than turn away
from it I am open to 2-way converstaion....I will NOT argue about what some
MDs propose as true which per the literature is false and/or a myth. I am
much better read of the medical literature on this topic to a great degree
than most MDs are of dental disease beyond the 0 to 60 minutes of training
they get.
FACT: Ear disease will go from "disease management" to disease cure" when
others understand what a few of us in this country already know.
Furthermore, people will be ticked to know that medicine has been so
blind....and WHY....MDs tell me they are too busy to look at this....and WHY
SO...MDs are so busy managing ear disease they do not have time to look at a
cure.
FACT: When the teeth come into the mouth the children "gum their gums" and
unsopported jaw joints take the excessive forces creating inflammation in
those with the anatomical disposition to have OM...and then get OM whether
symptomatic or not.
FACT: By OVER-MEDICATING for 20-30 years we have created a generation of
HYPER-ALLERGIC children and an assortment of SUPER GERMS we all now have to
fight.
FACT: BF decreases OM, usually, for a variety of reasons.  Forward suckling
action will get a good bit of credit for this result when it is studied....as
forward posturing of the mandible has effects from the front of the jaws to
the jaw joints....and to the ears and ear canal formation.
FINALLY: Unfortunately, in my 20 years of providing Functional Jaw
Orthopedics, and after nearly a decade of researching the medical
databases.....even as some publications start to recognize what I
SEE....(i.e. 1998 2 other DDSs published how changing the bite in 2 to 4 year
olds reduced or stopped OM) (I published it in 1988...I know it will be
MONTHS or YEARS before medicine even gives this "cure" a look and even LONGER
after recognition for enough dentists to be taught how to treat ear disease.
