In the core curriculum for lactation consultant practice, pag. 176 "
Accumulation of milk and the resulting engorgement are a major trigger of
apoptosis, or programmed cell death, that causes involution of the milk
secreting gland, milk resorption, collapse of the alveolar structures, and
the cessation of milk production.

My question is, after having a severe engorgement, in the first few days of
postpartum, and not breastfeeding or only breastfeeding 2-3x in 24,
supplementing with formula by bottle, for more than two-three weeks, what
would the chances be to re-establishing a full milk production and
breastfeeding? Statistically, when does the partial and then full
cessation of milk production begins? 2 weeks, 6 weeks... postpartum.

ciao,
rosellina
