Judy,
   Regarding the neonate with the ileostomy.  The urine output should remain
approximately 6 to 8 wet diapers/24 hours.  However, by-passing the fluid
absorptive ability of the large intestine, maintaining adequate hydration can
be difficult.  Mama needs to keep a close eye on the urine output.  The baby
should gain about 15-30 grams/day.
  Did this child have part of the small bowel removed?  If it was a lot, esp.
of the ileum, the child could have problems with malabsorption.  How long will
this child have the ostomy?
