Dear Thermatically Inclined People:
Alison's post about R-I-C-E, the treatment for edema using rest, elevation,
ice, and compression........reminded me of the recommendations to mothers who
are drying up their milk. We say "stop using them, ice them, and put them in
a tight bra. So what about continuous vs. intermittent here?
I have told moms that "warm opens the doors" or "warm makes flow" and "cold
relieves pain" so they can get the idea and make their own choice.
Are people thinking that if one uses warmth on an engorged breast, that it
means for a long time? The warm water bath is only until the milk starts to
flow and the baby can latch on or she can express. Not for anymore than that.
Think I'll try this with my dh. Lessee, warm promotes flow and cold would
certainly reduce engorgement!! Happy New Year to all !! :-D Nikki
