My 7-year-old son was reading over my shoulder when I read Ann's request for
bf slogans. A few minutes later, he came back and said, "Here's a slogan for
the lady that wanted one Mom: Be like a Whale (his camp group's called the
Whales)--only give your baby mother's milk!" Today, he said (after chiding
me for not having logged right back on to send his idea to you yesterday!),
"Actually, she could say 'Be like ANY mammal--only feed your baby mother's
milk". So. Out of the mouths of babes, we hear our future!!

Today our hospital had a table set up outside the cafeteria from 10 am to 3
pm to commemorate WBW. We displayed the Innocenti poster, as well as INFACT
Canada's poster of the trash bag full of bottle-feeding waste, and our BFHI
letter of intent. We also had a "wheel of fortune" game, with a sign that
said, "Breastfeeding: The Gold Standard in Infant Feeding". People could
spin the wheel and answer a bf question that matched the # on the wheel. I
mainly used the fact sheets that came in INFACT's WBW Action kit (thanks,
INFACT!) to come up with multiple choice & true/false questions where the
right answer was either "all of the above" OR the most dramatic choice on the
card, so everyone who played was a winner of a gold-wrapped chocolate coin.
When the droves of house staff came by after rounds, absorbed in their
little "cliques", all I had to say was "free chocolate" to get their
attention! They AND the private docs, nurses, patients/families, even the
housekeeping staff all seemed to enjoy the game, and nearly everyone had a
comment about the facts they learned, & took away one or more of the
handouts/bookmarks/buttons/stickers we had as giveaways. We gave out 170
gold coins in less than 5 hours! And the positive comments even from
formerly bottlefeeding grandmas was really uplifting.

Thanks for letting me share!

Carol, in "resort weather" St. Louis--but still jealous that I'm not heading
to New Orleans (sigh)
