Dear Friends:
    There are studies that show an increased duration  of breastfeeding when
baby goes to breast right away. Other studies show that  mothers whose babies
nuzzle and lick the nipple and areola in the half-hour  after birth, keep
those babies with them more in the hospital.
    I love Jennifer's approach! It is something every  labor and delivery
nurse and midwife and obstetrician can do; once the mother's  hormones change in
response to the physical contact of the baby at breast, her  feelings change
and then her behavior.
