Ugh, poor mama! A few things: It can take up to 4 weeks for dairy to clear the system, and many cases of reflux (particularly with preemies) are not related to mom's diet. Soy sensitivity often goes along with dairy, so if she wants to try again, it should probably be soy and dairy both. As for formula, she is not required to follow the doctor's advice. Does she have anyone else in her life trying to get her to give the formula? If not, or if she can resist them with your help, then stop! As she has accurately observed, baby is going to spit anyway. Better it be breastmilk. Is she aware of the easier reflux fixes? Feed small amounts frequently and slowly; keep the diaper waist band loose; and hold upright during and after feedings.
