I am hoping my co lactnetters can direct me in the right way. My
question is this: Several of our mothers in our special care
nursery/Nicu have large volumes of breast milk which are frozen in the
refrigerator on the unit. We attempt to give the freshest milk to the
feeders and growers. The problem is how do we reduce the large volume
of breast milk that is frozen and not used . I suggested that the
mother take it home to use, even though it may not be the correct
composition for the corrected gestational age. I have also suggested
that if the mother is a super producer, that she donate to the milk
bank. Does anyone micro manage the milk volumes so that if the mother
is overproducing do you have her downregulate the volume ? Thank you
, for helping me wiht this concern. Germaine
