While I disagree with the "It's not a big deal" attitude which has been expressed in the past, we do need to respond politely or this site will degenerate into a "bitching" post. One person makes a statement that bothers at least and infuriates at most others on the list, so they respond with anger and frustration which makes the original poster respond in kind, making the responders increasingly frustrated and angry. Pretty soon we start to sound like the kids who shout "He started it!" when adults try to break up a fight. It's bad enough when we see this happening in international relations(oops, that's probably straying off topic). Can't we be professional enough to avoid this trap?

I think what is happening is that those of us who are concerned about the pervasiveness of formula salesmen (hawkers or whatever you want to call them) are very frustrated and angry not only with the salespersons and their tactics, but with co-workers and administrations that don't see it as a problem. We often feel we get nowhere when we try to talk to them, so when a colleague states she doesn't agree that it's such a problem, we transfer that frustration and anger to her. Certainly we can be adult enough to respect the right of others to disagree or not put the same order of priorities on issues that we do, state why we think it is of greater importance and move on or at least talk about how to deal with the original concern and not attack each other.
