Add this to the list of stupid reasons given to moms to wean......
Mom called me today - has an 8 month old daughter (her second BF child) who
is exclusively BF, no bottles, no solids, does drink from a sippy cup
sometimes.  The baby had tubes put in her ears yesterday for recurrent ear
infections.  The ENT physician told the mom that she had to wean because, at
21#, the baby is too fat and, because of the ear problems, the baby is prone
to asthma - AND being fat will cause her to have an asthma attack  - AND the
breast milk is what is making her fat!!.   This poor mom called me to ask
about "cold turkey" weaning because she was "afraid her daughter would have
an asthma attack and die and it would be my fault"!!!
We had a long talk, about diets, allergies, etc and, at the end of the
conversation, she decided to continue BF!!
The nurses in out-patient surgery also gave her a hard time - they wanted
the baby to have a bottle after surgery, "so we can measure what she takes"
- and were horrified that this baby  did not want a bottle !!!!
AUGHHHHHH!!!!
