When I did my midwifery training in the UK, women who did not have an
epidural in labour, had a tub bath following delivery. There was
never any mention of not bathing until her locia subsided. Where I
practice now, in BC Canada, seldomly have I heard a doctor tell a
woman not to take a tub bath until her bleeding has stopped. Sitz
baths are also encouraged and no restrictions on bathing. Women who
have cesareans are allowed to shower the day after their surgery. No
baths until her incision is healed.
