Don't know about cancer, but I wanted to pass on info from a conversation
I had the other day. This woman (mom of 4 older kids), an LLL member way
back when, now raises dairy goats. She reports that it is quite common
for a kid to prefer one side of the udder. The mother goat then gets
"lopsided," but no other ill effect seems to occur. She
thought it might be related normal side-dominance (e.g. handed-ness in
people). I've often thought eye-dominace could be a factor. Most
right-handed people are right eye dominant, and so those babies might
prefer the mom's right breast, allowing them to look out more with the
right eye. In my own case, I let down faster on the right, so Patrick
always preferred to start there (but had no problem with the left
thereafter). Now it's just force of habit to go "right, then left" for us
both.

I've had two friends (both LLLLs) who've experienced children preferring
one breast for a time, with nothing else out of the ordinary going on. I
also understand that mastitis can make the milk taste salty in that side
for a while, turning off some babies.

Hope this musings help,
