I am looking for suggestions on things moms can do to promote breastfeeding within the community. I am convinced that the more positive information moms get from other moms the more likely it will be that breastfeeding rates will increase. In honor of World Breastfeeding Week the topic for tonights nursing moms group will be "What Can I do to Promote Breastfeeding?". I want moms to see that it is not just the responsibilty of HCP's and LC's to promote breastfeeding. Some ideas I have are:

Be educated - know the hazards of artificial infant milks and the benefits of breastfeeding so that you can give a ready, pisitive answer

Don't be judgemental - you can reach more moms with positive, affirmative support than judgement passed on past unsuccessful attempts

Educate your HCP if needed - if your doctor, nurse or other hcp provider gives information or suggestions that undermine breastfeeding don't just ignore his/her information, present him/her with facts supporting your reasons for continued breastfeeding (I will come up with better wording for this)

Any other ideas? I am having a brain-lapse today and I am under a deadline to get this done tonight if possible.

Thansk for any ideas and I apoligize in advance for my typos and grammatical errors. My little nursling is waking up and wants Mama.

Sincerely,
Mellanie Sheppard
