I'm sick to read about Lucas. My gut tells me something is amiss in
definitions etc or that somehow stiffer arteries are really better, huh!??
But I also thought about ilca funding research and the same could be said of
ilca, not that we have any profit financially from successful breastfeeding,
but that the funder would be biased toward... Having just come from a grand
rounds on herbs and lactation, i am worn out myself. The neonatologists and
fellows who grew up outside of the usa said nothing and the usa born are
clearly concerned about liability if say, fenugreek is recommended by a
hospital employee., so much so that they want the involved hospitals to call
in the lawyers to come up with a form that absolves them of responsiblity
should the mother choose to take an herb that would have deliterious effects
on the baby. Okay, some of it is valid...and maybe i would feel differently
if they verbalized any deliterious effects from formula usage or made some
commitment to deal with the iatrogenic causes of diminished supply stemming
from hospital practices. I was a lone voice among 40 folks, and i hate
looking like the radical. We are a young profession, and we still have so
much to do - together.
