Infants can develop diabetes, but I have never heard of one develop it
this early.  I would question the diagnosis.

But *why* can't she breastfeed?  Eh?  Just another example of "If we
don't know, no breastfeeding"?  I'll bet that's it.  I would encourage
her to breastfeed, it's not too late.
