Of course there are nurses who are wonderful and skilled at helping mothers
and babies, just as there are doctors, LLL Leaders, grandmothers, etc. And,
equally, there are nurses, doctors, Leaders, etc., who are not so good at
helping, or who may not be good at helping with a particular situation.

The problem in most hospital situations, though, is that the mother doesn't
get to choose which nurse will help her. You get the person whose turn it is
during the shift when you give birth. If I was having a baby at hospital "A"
for example, where I might know that 80% of the nurses are not helpful, I
would plan to bring someone with me who was very knowledgeable about
breastfeeding and insist that she be the one who helped me and my baby, if
needed. This is not intended to be an insult to the 20% of nurses who are
very supportive and helpful of breastfeeding in that hospital. But I
wouldn't want to take the chance of ending up with one of the "bad" ones.
