hi liz, i would advise ibclc's to not attend such functions. they are for
marketing purposes. if an ibclc needs or wants info on these products, it is
quite easy to do so.  you can ask the rep from all of the competing
manufacturers for the scientific info on their respective products. or you
can read about artificial feeding in many print and online
journals/articles. you can do a google search.

it is not against the WHO Code for manufacturers to provide health care
workers with information about their products. and it is not against the
code for health care workers to get information about these products. in
fact, health care workers do indeed need info about these products. it
behooves all health care workers to get information from non-biased sources
as well.

i think the ibclc's time would be much better spent in the library, or
online researching same. he/she could then provide some hopefully non-biased
info to her co workers, if she choose. going to the dinner will most likely
result in serious indigestion, nausea, and high blood pressure for the
ibclc.
