Coming in after being off-line for a while, so forgive any duplication
of ideas --

When I gave prenatal breastfeeding classes, I invited parents to think
about their approach to parenting as well as to the physical / emotional
aspects of breastfeeding itself. I said that it was important to
consider what you were going to do at 3 in the morning before you got to
the point of having a crying baby and a tense couple, and that during
pregnancy it was good to think about these big questions. I shared with
them that our decision to nurse the babies before it got to that point,
to always have them in arms and at breast, did not only help in our
parenting and in my breastfeeding but also helped us to feel good as a
couple.

On the other hand, in a previous life I also attachment parented my
babies *despite* my (former!) partner rather than because of him, and
mothers need to be told that this, as well as breastfeeding / parenting
without a lot of support, is very much possible. Still, it helps to
choose the way you want to mother before you first put your child /ren
to breast.
