HI Everyone,
Well, it wasn't a great day. The Pedi called me back today and she was not
going to be swayed into changing her mind on the Vit E. I did finally get
her to agree to let me fax the info to her but she probably trashed it.
She kept me on the phone for at least 10 mins. telling me that the antibiotic
ointment and lotrimun was more dangerous to the baby than the Vit E. She let
me know in the past 20 years she has recommended Vit E for sore nipples and
never had a problem. She also went on to say that she knows ALL the research
and NONE of it is worth quoting and lactation advise is just a bunch of
"mumble jumble". I tried to explain that there is poor research but there is
also very good research and that I know how to differentiate them. I also
pointed out the ABM and AAP with their work groups but she was turning a deaf
ear on me.
Since I am stuck with ethical restrictions on what I can say to the patient,
I called her saying that I had spoke with her doctor and that she wants her
to try the Vit E, that I faxed her the info I had and welcomed the patient to
also see the material if she wanted. I really cannot push a second opinion
unless the Mom ask me for one.
Sure glad they can't see my face while talking on the phone!
Thanks for letting me vent.
