I, too, worried about the scheduled feeds the motherless baby was receiving, until I realized the mothers came to the dad's house. I suddenly pictured them arriving as scheduled, nursing the baby, sitting around holding the baby and enjoying him, nursing him again if he wants, lingering over a cup of tea, and leaving well after the 20 minutes it would have taken to feed him, maybe even taking him along on a quick errand and returning him. Then the next foster mother arrives, maybe a little early this time, and so on. I comfort myself with guessing that he's getting much more than the 4-hourly stomach-fillers that the article implies, and that, like typical babies in some other cultures, he feels himself to have a number of loving mothers whom he trusts and enjoys.

I also felt compelled to look up "amniotic fluid embolism" (the cause of the mother's death) and was not surprised to learn that, though rare, it's twice as common with inductions. Something we need to know.
