And Nancy is too young to  remember when we kept babies NPO for 24 hours 
because they "weren't hungry" and  they needed to "rest their stomachs" after 
birth.  Then we started with the  sterile water and then the formula (sometimes 
half strength) and then the  breastmilk (maybe -- if moms were breastfeeding 
which was precious  few.)
