Hi, Ann.....there is no problem with pumping, and as you say, there
are mothers in situations (eg with tiny sick babies) who need to pump
and who need the very best products to enable them to do this.

The problem is with inappropriate, unethical marketing of pumps
direct to mothers and direct to HCPs.

This has predictable results - separation of mothers and babies, less
direct breastfeeding with all that that implies, and a creeping
equivalence of direct bf and use of bottles for breastmilk feeding.
In fact, some marketing has stated that use of bottles for breastmilk
feeding is actually 'better' than direct bf.

That's the problem!

The WHO code addresses the marketing, not the use, of products.
