That is quite true - that you can search the entire text of every post for
any word - but it can be extremely inefficient because so many results are
returned.  A more efficient way that some of us use is to search only
subject lines.  You can expand the search from there if necessary and look
in the body of all messages.  Again, depending on what you're looking for,
you may have to wade through a lot of irrelevant stuff when you do this.

Putting a proper subject line in your message will increase the likelihood
that your message can be found in the archives (assuming that's what you
want).  And, as Kathleen says, it's also nice.
