Hello dear lactnet friends,
I am interested in hearing from consultants in private practice.
I have run into some interesting situations in the past several weeks and am
left feeling confused and a little dazed. Yellowknifers are finally beginning
to take advantage of the fact that there is a lactation consultant available
but they don't really want to have to pay for the services (ie. for repeat
visits).
The other problem is that I am the only one in the city who retails Med---
products and there is no one for Ame-- Eg----. Now if I recommend something
such as an SNS, I am the supplier and they will have to pay me so I feel as
though there is a conflict there. In many ways I wish I were an employee
somewhere so that I could deliver lactation services and not have to worry
about individuals paying me for it.
How do you handle these types of issues???

There are some good things happening here in the lactation arena such as,
Social Services has agreed to pay for breast pumps (manual and electric
rental) for clients if recommended by a Public Health Nurse. I have developed
a relationship with one GP who has begun suggesting that people call me and
have me visit. The Public Health Clinic is looking for funding to create a
full time lactation consultant position.

The other good thing here is, finally, the weather! We reached 31.C on Sunday
and we have daylight from 4am to midnight and we are still gaining.

Please respond privately to my queries as I am not sure that the issues I have
raised are appropriate for discussion on the list.

Thanks for listening and for being there.
