Nikki,
Meconium aspiration is very tricky. The babies can be anything from
mildly to gravely ill from it. Your letter doesn't say if the baby is
having difficulty breathing, if she is on a ventilator, or just how sick
she is. If the baby was fed by feeding tube, I would assume she was too
sick to suck. I'm not surprised the formula just sat there. But if the
baby is well enough to suck on a bottle, she would most likely do even
better at breast. If the baby is on vent support, or critically ill,
then she would be fed by tube if she is enterally fed at all.

Your comment to the mother about having a milk supply ready when the
baby is ready for it was great. Getting a few drops at a time 2 days
after birth doesn't sound out of the realm of normal to me at all, and I
hope she will be encouraged to keep going. I would let her know that her
milk will help in the baby's recovery.

Best wishes to them.
