Well said, Pat. And also the bit earlier in your post where you said,"The
idea that baby needs foods different from the rest of the family came along with
the poor nutrition offered by the early formulas or evaporated milk."

To which I would add that the notion of babies eating very different food
becomes reinforcing with each passing generation.
