Shirley, I hope you will report on this topic. I have a patient
who is determined to evert her (very) inverted nipples prior to
pregnancy. She wants to breastfeed future children and has
seen her siblings struggle and fail secondary to (she reports)
the severity of the nipple inversion. Believe me -- I discussed
all the conventional wisdom (and treatments) with her. She
remains unchanged in her desire to evert ASAP. Since our
HMO likely won't cover the cost, she will probably purchase
the device on her own. Our gynecologists have mixed
feelings about this device (for which they have only seen the
manufacturer/distributor literature) but will be following results
from this pt. and any case reports you share.

This lady is even going to see a surgeon who has told her he
"knows how to surgically correct this problem" -- I discussed
with her the potential problems inherent with that approach
as it relates to her desire to breastfeed.

I will also share any information I gain from this woman's
experience (or others). Now that this device is over the
counter (in the USA) I expect to hear more about it.

Margery Wilson, IBCLC
