I wanted to let LatNetters know that the American Academy of Pediatrics has
just released Pediatric Environmental Health - 2nd Edition.

The book may be of interest to the lactation community for two
reasons. One, it contains an updated chapter on breastfeeding and
toxic contamination. Two, it contains chapters on all kinds of other
environmental health risks that might be relevant to exposures that
nursing mothers face.

I haven't seen this 2nd edition, but I do have the first one on my
shelf. My feeling on the breast milk chapter is that emphasizes the
importance of breastfeeding almost to the point of downplaying the
dangers of toxic contamination...but I'm sure others on this list
might react differently.

You
can order a copy of the new edition by visiting the AAP website at
http://www.aap.org/bookstore
The cost is $39.95 (a $5 savings) if the order is placed before December 31,
2003. After the new year, the non-member price is $44.95.

[I have no financial or professional ties to AAP. I'm just passing
on information about how to obtain the book, which was sent to me by
the Children's Environmental Health Network, a non-profit group of
which I'm a member.]
