Celine
I have a couple of thoughts. This case will take some detective work.
My first thought was continued "subclinical" mastitis that has altered the
taste of her milk. My second thought was breast cancer as I've heard that
babies sometimes refuse an affected breast, and that is the first sign of a
breast problem. We know that there is a breast cancer, called inflammatory
breast cancer, or IBC, that presents as a mastitis and will recur after the
usual mastitis treatment.
My next thought was the lipase issue, in which mother has to scald her milk
prior to storing, to prevent a soapy taste. Other causes could be a smell in
the storage containers, plastics leaching, her freezer's defrost cycle.
Could she try different containers? Could she try scalding? Is she storing
away from doors and walls of freezer? How old is her pump and valves? Is it
a borrowed pump or second hand?
Hope some of this helps.
