This is the recency effect which is, when given a sequence of things to
learn, we tend to remember the things at the end of the sequence. The
primacy effect is the tendency to remember the things at the beginning of
the sequence.

In teaching, you want to optimize the primacy and recency effects by having
several shorter teaching sessions, and therefore lots of beginnings and ends
of sequences, rather than one long session with only one beginning and one
end.
