Hmm, so I was right! <

I think it would be an *assumtion* that because something appeared in the
French media about the possible adverse effects of breastfeeding for HIV+
women, and we can find no suggestion of a research project that supports
this (although it has crossed my mind that it could be part of the Ndauti
data that is going to be published seperately from the JAMA study) that this
is a media 'blip' or 'misunderstanding'.

As I posted before, let us not forget that there are interests at stake in
demonstrating adverse effects for HIV+ mother-baby pairs from breastfeeding.
There are commercial considerations.  There are the scientific reputations
built in this area over the last two decades.  I don't know that these
interests are involved -- have no evidence whatsoever -- but I think it a
fair question to wonder if there is any relation.

Looking at the tortured history of HIV and its treatment in the media and
the popular consiousness, I gather *no* reassurance that scientifically
justifiable understandings will prevail.
