My friend Maria Corona, the wonderful RN/LLLL/LC from El Paso visited Rome a
few years back.  She made me a present of two lovely slides she purchased at
a gift shop in the Vatican.  They are of stained glass windows in midieval
cathedrals (I don't know where) of Mary breastfeeding the infant Jesus.  I
frequently use them at the beginning of presentations because they are so
beautiful and because they provide an opportunity to attach an historical
reference or two to the subject.  Being a practicing Catholic, I have a lot
of reverence for the spiritual dimensions of the relationship between Jesus
and His Mother, and the reflection of this in all nusing relationships.
 Imagine my surprise when I presented a seminar once and had an evaluation
come back saying that it was appalling bad taste to show Mary with an exposed
breast suckling Jesus. I have often visualized the love of God pouring out as
the milk of human kindness flowing into the trusting mouths of all the babes
of humankind.   I loved Jon's post from Martin Luther.  It really said it all
on this subject.
